Route 2/17 Widening, City of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County
Project Overview
The proposed improvements would include widening the existing Route 2/17 to four lanes with the creation of a 10‑foot-wide shared use path running parallel along the east side of the widened roadway.
The project will also include the addition of facilities for a new feeder bus service within the corridor and intersection improvements at Lansdowne Road.

The meeting will be held in an open house format. No formal presentation will be delivered at the meeting.
Please note that the preliminary design plans are in development and not yet available at this time. A design public hearing is anticipated to be held in August 2024 to share proposed design plans.
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, in the form of a Categorical Exclusion, is being developed to evaluate the potential impacts on the human and natural environments that could result from the proposed improvements. Pursuant to 23 CFR 774, VDOT, on behalf of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), intends to make a Section 4(f) de minimis impact finding related to potential right of way impacts to Dixon Park in the City of Fredericksburg. The public’s feedback is being sought as part of this environmental review for the CE and supporting technical documentation, including Section 4(f).
VDOT invites the public to share their feedback by attending the meeting or completing an online survey by March 2, 2024.

The inclement weather date for the public hearing is Wednesday, February 28, 2024. If the meeting on February 21 is canceled due to inclement weather, the meeting will be rescheduled for Feb. 28 and will be held at the same time and in the same location.
