What is the Monterey County Regional Vision Zero Action Plan?
Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) is creating a safety plan that will outline strategies and projects to help us reach our goal of eliminating fatal and serious injury collisions on county roadways.
We are All in This Together: Everyone who travels on Monterey County roads - whether driving, walking, biking, or riding transit - plays a role in creating a safer transportation system. By working together and sharing the responsibilities to improve road safety, we strengthen connections between our diverse communities and enhance quality of life for all.
Safety is Personal: Every traffic death and severe injury on Monterey County roads affects a real family in our community. Everyone deserves to get home safe to their loved ones, no matter how they choose to travel - whether walking, biking, driving, or taking transit.
Local Knowledge Drives Better Solutions: Your daily experiences traveling through Monterey County provide insights that crash data alone cannot capture. Your firsthand knowledge and suggestions for safety improvements will shape solutions that work for your community.
What will this plan cover?
Locations
The Monterey County Regional Vision Zero Action Plan will consider all roads within Monterey County, including city streets, county roads, and state highways. We will be creating individual safety plans for the cities of Carmel, Pacific Grove, Del Rey Oaks, Sand City, Marina, Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, King City, as well as the rural parts of Monterey County. The cities of Salinas, Monterey, and Seaside already have, or are in the process of developing, their own safety plans. The residents of these three cities are still encouraged to participate in workshops and attend pop-up events as they too frequent the other cities in Monterey County which are included in the plan.
Strategies
The plan will include much more than engineering projects. Using the Safe System Approach, we will identify new or improved local policies and programs to better prioritize safety, as well as region-wide strategies like education and enforcement to encourage safe behaviors.
