STARS Ridge Street and W Main Street Study Alternatives
STARS Ridge Street and W Main Street Study Alternatives
This STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study assesses potential safety and operational improvements for the Ridge Street and W Main St (US 250)/ W Water St/South St W intersection. This survey is being used to gather the public’s input on the alternatives under consideration to improve issues identified by the study team and from the previous survey. The first round of online public involvement for this study was conducted in March 2025. In general, most respondents traveled through the corridor in a personal vehicle a few times a week or on a daily basis. Respondents prioritized a need for reducing weekday afternoon traffic congestion, improving pedestrian and bicycle safety and accessibility, and improving corridor/intersection safety as their most important considerations. Secondary needs identified by respondents were ensuring proper pavement markings and signage, multimodal improvements, and addressing speeding/aggressive driving.
This Study explores three alternatives to address the needs of the community at the complex five-leg intersection. Alternative 1 simplifies the layout with one-way streets, shortens crosswalks, and adds a bike lane on Water Street. Alternative 2 also uses one-way streets but includes a separate signal for people walking and biking, along with a new two-way bikeway on W Main St. Alternative 3 replaces the intersection with a roundabout, converts the bike lanes on W Main to shared lanes, and adds shared-use paths to connect to the bike lanes on W Water and South St W.
