Route 1 and Route 624 (Layhill Road) Intersection Improvements Stafford County
Find out about a proposed project to improve the intersection at Route 1 and Route 624 (Layhill Road) in Stafford County.
The following improvements are being proposed:
- Widen Layhill Road to provide dual right-turn lanes and a single left-turn lane onto Route 1.
- A new left-turn lane would be added on eastbound Layhill Road to a new connector roadway linking Layhill Road with Heritage Commons Drive behind the Valero gas station, along with a new left-turn lane on eastbound Layhill Road to Forbes Street.
- The existing right-turn lane on Layhill Road to Forbes Street would be improved and lengthened.
- Route 1, the southbound left-turn lane would be extended, and a new raised median for access management would be added. The northbound right-turn lane onto Layhill Road would be extended.
- The right-turn lane on northbound Route 1 between Layhill Road and Heritage Commons Drive would be reconstructed.
- New pedestrian facilities. A 10-foot shared-use path would be built along westbound Layhill Road from Forbes Street to the new connector road.
- A 5-foot sidewalk would be added along westbound Layhill Road from the connector road to Route 1, along northbound Route 1 from Layhill Road to Heritage Commons Drive, along eastbound Heritage Commons Drive from Route 1 to the connector road, and along the connector road southbound from Heritage Commons Drive to Layhill Road.
