Intersection improvements at Rt. 1 and Hood Drive/Mine Road
This project would improve traffic congestion, safety and pedestrian accommodations at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 636 (Hood Drive/Mine Road) in Spotsylvania County.
Improvements include:
- Widen Route 1 to six lanes with raised concrete medians from just north of the intersection with Hood Drive/Mine Road to just south of the Veterans Administration Fredericksburg Health Care Clinic.
- Widen Hood Drive to four lanes between the secondary Veterans Administration Fredericksburg Health Care Clinic entrance and Route 1, with one of the two westbound lanes ending as a left turn lane into the secondary clinic entrance.
- On the eastbound Hood Drive approach to Route 1, there will be a shared left turn lane/through lane, a through lane, and a right turn lane.
- Pedestrian crossings and crossing signal equipment will be added at the Route 1 and Hood Drive/Mine Road intersection.
- Sidewalk will be added to connect with the existing sidewalk network.
- A bus turnout and bus shelter will be added on Route 1 northbound near Business Drive
