Route 360 Arterial Management Plan
Route 360 Arterial Management Plan
The study assesses modifications to potentially all the intersections on Route 360 in Essex, King and Queen, and King William County. This segment of Route 360 is part of the Arterial Preservation Network, which is the state-maintained portion of the National Highway System in Virginia. Fourteen key intersections on the corridor will be studied in detail (shown in the Project Location Map). The study will determine recommendations to address existing needs while also considering potential future development. The study objectives are to mitigate safety issues, improve multimodal and active transportation modes of travel, and alleviate congestion.
Arterial Management Plans use a holistic approach that identifies ways to ensure safety and preserve the capacity of the Commonwealth’s arterial highway network without wide-scale roadway widenings. Arterial Management Plans are a key component of the Arterial Preservation Program, providing localities and VDOT a guide to future development and supporting transportation network infrastructure.
This survey presents two potential build scenarios to address existing and forecasted needs on the corridor. The first build scenario is labeled “Option 1”, and it represents a basic approach to addressing safety and congestion needs primarily using VDOT standards for access management spacing.
The second build scenario is labeled “Option 2”, and it represents a more involved, holistic approach to preserving the safety and capacity of the facility. This scenario seeks to provide additional safety and better traffic operations through more comprehensive access management and alternative intersection designs.
