Rt. 301, Port Conway Road, and Salem Church Road
Rt. 301, Port Conway Road, and Salem Church Road
aring This proposed project seeks to enhance safety and reduce the risk of crashes at the intersection of Route 301 (James Madison Parkway), Route 607 (Port Conway Road) and Route 625 (Salem Church Road) in King George County.
The intersection would be rebuilt to have a restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT) traffic pattern. This pattern has fewer locations where vehicle paths could overlap and collide, resulting in a crash.
When construction is complete, left turns from Port Conway Road and Salem Church Road onto Route 301 would be prohibited at the intersection. Traffic exiting from Port Conway Road and Salem Church Road would also not be permitted to drive through (straight across) Route 301.
Instead, side street traffic would first turn right and make a U-turn at a dedicated median opening to travel in their desired direction.
The existing Route 301 northbound left turn lane onto Port Conway Road would be extended, and the existing Route 301 southbound left turn lane onto Salem Church Road would be extended.
King George County submitted an application to fund this project through Virginia's SMART SCALE transportation funding program.
