AMATS: Chugach Way Rehabilitation
AMATS: Chugach Way Rehabilitation
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in coordination with Anchorage Metropolitan Area Transportation Solutions (AMATS), is now beginning further alternative analysis and design to rehabilitate Chugach Way.
Overview
Project Overview
Chugach Way is a municipally owned local street that extends from Spenard Road to Arctic Boulevard in Anchorage’s Spenard neighborhood. The corridor faces several challenges, including cut-through traffic, a lack of sidewalks or other multi-modal facilities, and aging infrastructure along this narrow right-of-way that varies between 45 to 30 feet in width.
Its location near high-density housing, the Midtown employment center, and areas with redevelopment potential make it an important transportation project that can support the surrounding neighborhood.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in coordination with Anchorage Metropolitan Area Transportation Solutions (AMATS), is now beginning further alternative analysis and design to rehabilitate Chugach Way, building off previous plans and studies. Planned improvements will include multi-modal facilities and other upgrades to improve safety, connectivity, and infrastructure, while balancing these improvements with the narrow right-of-way.
Project Area
The project includes the entire length of Chugach Way in Anchorage, from Spenard Road to Arctic Boulevard, including both intersections at each end.
