Survey #2: Route 29 Study (Summit Drive to Jermantown Road)
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation is conducting its second round of online survey, seeking public input and feedback on the proposed corridor wide pedestrian and bicycle connectivity and improvements as well as at grade intersection improvements in lieu of the planned interchanges, presented at the June 5th public meeting. The purpose of the Study along Route 29 corridor, between Buckleys Gate Drive and Jermantown Road is to reassess the long-term needs of the corridor, exploring multi-model potential and developing context sensitive solutions. Feedback from the survey will inform the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan. Please reference the presentation for a visual when answering the questions in this survey.
FCDOT is asking for feedback by the close of business on Friday, June 21.

Step 1
(Applies only to the Corridor between Summit Drive and Jermantown Road)
1. The Study indicates that the intersections of Legato Road and Monument Drive at Route 29 will operate within acceptable conditions with the proposed improvements (adjusting signal timing, lane designs etc.) in the future. We recommend removal of the planned interchanges from the comprehensive plan. Do you agree?

2. The Study indicates that adding additional capacity in the form of dual left turn lanes along Waples Mill Road and Shirley Gate Road will help address the traffic problems for this intersection in the future. We recommend removal of the planned interchange from the comprehensive plan and exploring alternative at grade improvements (adjusting signal timing, lane designs, etc.) to optimize efficiency and safety while minimizing cost and environmental damage. Do you agree?

3. To improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity and safety issues, we propose relying on the service drive where we do not have adequate right- of- way along Route 29 for a shared use path. Are you comfortable biking and walking along the service drive of Route 29?
The study has proposed intersection-level pedestrian improvements.
4a. Do you prefer striped crosswalks for all 4 legs of each of the intersection?
4b. Would you feel comfortable waiting in the median refuge in circumstances where you can't cross the intersection.
