Project Pipeline Study - Phase 2 Alternatives Survey
Provide input on recommended alternatives to improve Route 419 (Electric Road) between Springwood Park Drive and Starkey Road. Your feedback will help local leaders to determine which improvements may be submitted for grant funding.
In addition to this survey, Roanoke County is hosting an open house-style community meeting on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Roanoke County Administration Center – Third Floor Training Room at 5204 Bernard Drive, Roanoke, VA, 24018. The purpose of the meeting is to seek input on possible corridor, intersection, and safety improvements. The inclement weather date is November 12, 2025, at the same time and place.
Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Through this planning process, projects and solutions may be considered for funding through programs, including SMART SCALE, revenue sharing, and other funding options.

Background
The purpose of this study is to identify project recommendations for the Route 419 (Electric Road) corridor in Roanoke County between Starkey Road and Springwood Park Drive. This study is focusing on improving roadway and pedestrian safety, capacity preservation (to keep traffic flowing smoothly), multimodal accessibility/connectivity (bicyclist, pedestrian, and transit), and transportation demand management (TDM) needs. The project recommendations that come from this study may be developed into funding applications for VDOT's SMART SCALE program and other transportation funding programs.
This Phase 2 survey is intended to obtain public input on the alternatives under consideration to address the issues that were identified by the study team and prioritize improvements to seek funding.

Innovative Intersections
Innovative intersection designs including Restricted Crossing U-turns (RCUTs) and Thru-cuts are recommended at intersections along Route 419 within the study area.
