Background

The purpose of this study is to identify project recommendations for the segment of Route 42 (Virginia Avenue) from Gay Street to the Harrisonburg northern city limit. The intent of this study is to improve safety and operations along the corridor. This is a planning level study. The proposed roadway modifications in this survey are not final and have not received funding for construction.

This Phase 2 survey is intended to obtain public input on the alternatives under consideration to address the issues that were identified by the study team. The project recommendations that come from this study will be developed into funding applications for VDOT's SMART SCALE program and other transportation funding programs.
