Background

The focus of this study is to assess key areas for improving safety, operations, and multimodal access in the urbanized segment of U.S. Route 522 from Echo Lane to the Winchester city limits. The project recommendations generated by this study will be developed into funding applications for VDOT’s SMART SCALE program and other transportation funding programs.

This is a planning-level study. The proposed roadway modifications in this survey are not final and have not received funding for construction. This Phase 2 survey is intended to obtain public input on the alternatives under consideration to address the issues that were identified by the study team.
