Nenana River Bridge at Rex Replacement Project (Grant Overview)
Nenana River Bridge at Rex Replacement Project (Grant Overview)
Application to the Bridge Investment Program (BIP) Bridge Project
This project will replace the Nenana River Bridge at Rex (#0126) located along the Parks Highway and part of the Interstate Highway System. This bridge is currently rated in poor condition and is structurall deficient. The bridge is at risk of load posting within two years, which would limit freight movement in the region. The Parks Highway is vital to people and freight movements as the important economic and tourist route linking Fairbanks and Anchorage. It is also a link for rural communities such as Healy and Nenana who access groceries, supplies, healthcare, and other resources in Fairbanks. The Parks Highway also provides access to the nearby Clear Space Force Station and road access to Denali National Park.
BIP Funding Request:
- Total Project Cost: $68,809,000
- Federal Funding Request: $55,047,200
- State Match: $13,761,800
Bridge Investment Program (BIP)

Projects with total eligible project costs of less than $100 million are eligible under the Bridge Program.
