Downtown Redding CAPM
Downtown Redding CAPM
Caltrans District 2 is revitalizing downtown Redding by improving accessibility and ease of travel for bicycles and pedestrians and restoring pavement, culverts, and Traffic Management Systems. Work includes minor pavement rehabilitation on State Routes 273, 44, and 299 within the City of Redding in Shasta County.
Project Description
This project is a minor pavement rehabilitation on State Routes 273 (Market and California Streets), 44 (Tehama and Pine), and 299 (Eureka Way) within the City of Redding in Shasta County. The project will improve the pavement for a smoother ride for the traveling public.
Purpose
The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate pavement on State Routes 273 (Market and California Streets), 44 (Tehama and Pine), and 299 (Eureka Way) to improve ride quality, and minimize future maintenance work. This project will reduce future costs and extend the pavement life by at least 10 years. The project enhances safety and reliability of the roadway for all modes.
Need
Much of the pavement within the project limits shows varying levels of wear including cracks and ruts in the road, which contribute to poor ride quality. If these conditions are not addressed, it will eventually lead to larger repairs outside of routine maintenance. There is a need for additional improvements to culverts, striping, sidewalks, and curb ramps to bring surface elements to current standard.
