Step 1
Planning and development are underway to convert the existing bus lanes in the median of U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard) in Charlotte to express lanes.
The proposed work would convert approximately five miles of the bus lanes from I-277 to west of Idlewild Road to express lanes (one in each direction).
Access will be provided along the express lanes for drivers to enter and exit. A direct connector road (exit and entrance ramps directly connecting express lanes and cross streets) is also proposed between the express lanes and Albemarle Road.
