Project Overview

What will this study do?

The North Falls Lake Area Study will create a vision for how the community will be built out over the next thirty years,  based on a projection of where future homes and businesses will be built, with emphasis on the transportation system needed to support coming residents and jobs.

What areas will the study cover?

The study covers southern Granville County, along with adjacent portions of Wake and Franklin Counties, including Oxford, Stem, Butner, and Creedmoor. A map of the study area is available at the bottom of this page.

Who is leading this study?

The study is being led by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), which does transportation planning for the greater Raleigh region, which spans from Apex to Butner to Zebulon.  Granville County is a major leader of this study, and the communities of Oxford, Stem, Butner, and Creedmoor are closely involved.

How can my voice be heard?

There will be two phases of public engagement during the study.  The first, focused on land use and transportation priorities, which included an online survey that closed on Sunday, October 26, 2025.  The next phase of engagement will occur in the spring of 2026, around the study's recommendations.  In the meantime, if you have comments you want to share with the planning team, please feel free to email us at NFallsLake@publicinput.com or leave us a voicemail at 855-925-2801, code 11905.

Understand Environmental and Utility Conditions in the Area

April - August 2025

This phase of the project resulted in the creation of the Environmental Plan document, which details the environmental features that act as resources and constraints in the area, like waterways, specific soils, and protected lands. This document also examines the availability and capacity of water and sewer systems in the area to understand how these factors will affect development in the future.

Identify a Regional Land Use Vision

July - December 2025

The project team is working to create a singular land use vision for the entire North Falls Lake area. This vision will be based on existing plans, feedback received from the community, and a technical review of different ways the community could grow over the next thirty years. The product will be an understanding of what the area could look like in 2055 - where there will be homes, shops, employment centers, and what areas will remain natural and rural.

The online survey for this phase closed on Sunday, October 26th.

Develop a Transportation Plan

December 2025 - May 2026

Based on the regional land use vision developed in the previous step, including the public input received, the project team will identify the transportation system that will be needed to support the area in the future. This may include improvements to existing roads, new roads, walking and bicycling paths, and/or transit services, as appropriate.

Stay Tuned! In Spring of 2026, this webpage will be updated to show planned improvements and will provide another opportunity for the community to provide your feedback.
