STARS US 29/250 Bypass Interchange with Emmet St Alternatives
The area of the US 29/250 Bypass Interchange at Emmet Street is being studied as part of the VDOT STARS program. The study team has developed several ideas for transportation projects to improve traffic flow, safety, access, and connectivity for all travel modes, including motorized vehicles, bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit. This survey asks for your feedback on each of the project ideas, which are also called “alternatives.”
For each location, this survey presents several pieces of information, including:
- a graphic of the existing condition (no-build alternative)
- current issues (deficiencies) at that location,
- a graphic of the proposed alternative (some locations may have more than one alternative),
- a description of the proposed alternative
- how the proposed alternative is expected to improve the current issues, and
- star-ratings showing how much the alternative would improve or worsen the existing conditions (shown on each alternative graphic).
The star-ratings for each alternative evaluate four criteria:
Congestion Reduction: helping traffic move more smoothly by reducing delays, backups, and stop-and-go driving
Improved Bike/Pedestrian Accommodations: adding or improving crossings, sidewalks, bike facilities, or other features that make it easier and more comfortable for people to walk or bike
Vehicular and Multi-modal Safety Improvements: Improved safety for motorists and multimodal users
Improved Accessibility and Connectivity: Providing a new or improved connection between activity centers, developments, or existing roadways.
A star-rating of 2.5 stars indicates minimal to no change. A star rating of 2 or less indicates the alternative creates a worse condition. A star rating of 3 or more indicates the alternative creates a better condition.
This survey asks you to rate each alternative on a scale of 1 (low) to 5 (high) and share any additional comments. Your input will help guide the selection of the preferred alternatives.
