The N.C. Department of Transportation is proposing to upgrade U.S. 64 between I-85 in Lexington and the Asheboro Bypass. The corridor is approximately nineteen miles long and will include tie-in connections with the I-85 and N.C.109 interchanges east of Lexington, and the Asheboro Bypass interchange, west of Asheboro.  The project will also replace the bridge over the Uwharrie River. The purpose of the project is to improve regional vehicular mobility along the entire corridor.

For funding and construction, this project has been broken into four sections:

  • Section B:     I-85 east of Lexington to N.C. 109

  • Section CA:  N.C. 109 to the Davidson/Randolph County line (Kindley Road)

  • Section CB:  Fron the Davidson/Randolph County line (Kindley Road) to Lake Park Road

  • Section DA:  Lake Park Road to the Asheboro Bypass

At this time, only section DA is funded for project development as shown below.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
