Destination 2055 MTP
The Triangle region is anticipated to continue experiencing unprecedented growth for many years to come. We will need plans in place to ensure we have a resilient transportation network that serves the needs of the entire community from our residents to employers, visitors, and others. The region’s transportation planning agencies are working to update the plan that will guide the next 30 years of investments in roads, transit services, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and more. This Plan is known as Destination 2055, or the 2055 MTP.
Public engagement has concluded for all of the development phases of Destination 2055, the Triangle Region's long-range transportation plan update. As of mid-November 2025, both MPO Boards (Triangle West TPO and Capital Area MPO) had adopted the projects and programs that will make up Destination 2055.
The Recommended Destination 2055 Plan with all projects, programs, and additional descriptions, has been released for a 45-day public comment period. Both Boards are anticipated to consider full and final adoption of the updated plan in February of 2026.
