Courthouse Road and Hull Street Alternatives Survey
Courthouse Road and Hull Street Alternatives Survey
Project Background
Thank you for your interest in the Route 653 (Courthouse Road) and Route 360 (Hull Street Road) Alternatives survey. The purpose of this survey is to evaluate potential improvements at the intersection of Courthouse Road and Hull Street Road in Chesterfield County. The proposed project will modify the existing intersection to a partial median U-turn, removing two left turn movements from the Hull Street Road and Courthouse Road intersection. Under review are rerouting options to accommodate U-turn movements and the impacts if no changes are made (no build).
Project Needs
Historical safety and operational issues at this intersection resulted in the initiation of an alternatives analysis at this intersection. Previous conventional improvements addressed some of these issues but have not resulted in long-term solutions. This study seeks to develop an intersection improvement that will address the crash patterns identified below:
A secondary goal is to provide congestion relief and improve the flow of traffic through this area. Lengthy queues are frequent occurrences along both Hull Street Road and Courthouse Road. Options will be selected and reviewed based on their ability to impact congestion issues along the corridor.
Project Partners
Two alternatives are proposed for this intersection.
- Programmed partial median U-turn with three through lanes in each direction on Courthouse Road through Hull Street (Northbound & Southbound lefts redirected to U-turns on adjacent Hull Street Road intersections)
- Partial median U-turn with three through lanes in each direction on Courthouse Road through Hull Street Road (Northbound & Southbound lefts redirected to U-turns at Oxbridge Road and Rockwood Square/Oxbridge Square)
