Help shape the future of transportation in Alexander County

We’re planning for a safer, more connected future for people who walk, bike, ride transit, and use mobility aids. Whether you walk to school, bike for fun, or want additional ways to get around, your voice matters.

This brief survey will help us understand how you currently travel, where you face challenges, and what improvements you'd like to see. Thank you for helping make Alexander County a more walkable, bikeable, and accessible place for all!

Why Plan?

Walk & Bike Alexander County is a planning study that will:

  • Assess current walking, biking, and transit conditions.
  • Recommend projects and programs to improve safety, access, and connectivity.
  • Prioritize future sidewalks, greenways, and transit options.

Alexander County has a small (growing) network of sidewalks - especially in Taylorsville and along corridors like NC 16 and NC 90 - as well as some new connections in Bethlehem. Outdoor areas like Rocky Face Park and Wittenburg Access provide additional recreational destinations. The plan will build on these strengths to create a safer, more connected transportation network.

How We're Listening

This plan is guided by a local Steering Committee and shaped by public input gathered through surveys, events, and outreach. Your feedback helps us understand local needs and priorities.

Project Background

NCDOT has awarded a grant from the Planning Grant Initiative to Alexander County to develop the Alexander County Multimodal Plan. The project is expected to be completed in early 2026 (timeline is subject to change based on the final review process).

Survey Purpose

The purpose of this survey is to collect your thoughts about walking, bicycling, and using transit in Alexander County. Your input will help us prioritize a list of recommended sidewalks, greenways, bike lanes, and transit-related projects.

Who is it for?

This survey is for everyone who lives, works, or visits Alexander County.

How long will the survey be open?

We will be collecting responses to this survey through mid-July 2025.

What will we do with this information?

Your input will be used to create Walk & Bike Alexander County. Once the Plan is adopted, Alexander County and NCDOT can use it to guide how we design and build projects, shape policy decisions, develop programs and events, and apply for new types of funding to improve mobility across the county.
