How do you connect to the arts in Austin?
We patronize the museums, libraries, downtown art installations and photograph architecture.

The DAC has been my go to place for pottery classes since 1999 when I took my 1st ever clay class.

I like going to East/West studio tours, visiting museums, and following artists on social media! I also have attended the DACs adult nights, which are fun ways to engage creatively in a low-stakes environment.

Visit museums and performances at spaces and venues all over the city. Art classes for myself and for my child. Discovering the work of local artists.

What would make the DAC feel as if it is a vital part of Austin?
More publicity for the exhibitions, performances, and classes there, and a stronger sense of connection to and even partnership with other arts institutions in the city, particularly those nearby (such as Zach Theatre and the Long Center).

The gallery space, auditorium and classrooms add to the ability of Austinites to experience art and improves the QOL here.

What programs or experiences would draw you to the new DAC?
I love the current offerings. But would love to see more events that can bring in non-artists but artistically curious. Through fun activities or 1 day stand alone class.
I would also enjoy fun events to encourage collaborate visual art making. Pairing a photographer and a painter to create something.

Theatre performances, dance performances, classical concerts, visual arts exhibitions, and educational events such as interviews and round table discussions with artists.

I love the ideas that others have mentioned here: arts classes (photography, painting, writing, and pottery all sound intriguing), visual arts exhibitions, and panels or discussions with local artists, musicians, and authors.

Other than sustainability and flexibility of use, what should be the primary design motivators of the new building?
