Nature play encourages exploration, creativity, and interaction with the natural environment. These spaces often incorporate natural elements to encourage physical activity, creativity, and environmental stewardship. By incorporating nature play we aim to foster a deeper appreciation for the environment and create meaningful, enjoyable play experiences for children of all ages. Through the introduction of nature play we hope to align with the context/setting of the park, honoring the natural feel of the space while providing new and interesting features for everyone to enjoy in the park.

Below are some examples of nature play elements. The design team is exploring ideas to enhance the connection to nature and the unique character of the pecan grove. One possibility is a pecan shelling station. We'd love your feedback on this idea or suggestions for other features that celebrate the grove's sense of place.
Love the pecan shelling station. Also maybe an informative plaque about the pecan shellers strike? It was in San Antonio, but I feel like the pecan grove is a nice place to talk about the history of pecan agriculture and activism in the state.
Our previous survey revealed a strong interest in adding swings to the park. The design team is moving forward with plans to include a swing set, and we're considering a design similar to the one shown below. This configuration offers versatility for a wide range of users, featuring one tot swing (A), one belt swing (B), and one nest swing (C). We'd love to hear your thoughts on this proposed design!
Variety is good as long as it's shaded. If it's in the summer sun, it's not usable after 9am.
Our previous two surveys indicated an interest in incorporating traditional play elements into the park. To align with these preferences, we're collaborating with a playground consultant to select equipment that complements the park's natural aesthetic. The image below showcases a variety of play elements suggested by the consultant. Please rank these items in order of your preference. Note: not all of these elements will make it into the final plan.
Be a major win. Most of us who live on/ right off Tillery have dogs
If done and patrolled safely, a pavilion is a great idea. How do we ensure safety and enforce park curfew?
How do we deter this scenario?
