What is a Master Plan?

A Master Plan provides a guide for the future development of a community. It serves as a comprehensive approach to planning issues and considers many factors impacting a community’s economic development needs.

The Master Plan gives the community the legal basis for control over future development, as well as land use planning policy and zoning changes. Most changes are implemented in the form of zoning amendments and land development ordinances.

Why is the Township doing a new Master Plan?

The last time the Township completed a new Master Plan was over a decade ago, in 2009. The way people live, travel, and do business has changed tremendously since then. We need a new planning document to guide land use policies, development, and infrastructure improvements to respond to our current and future needs.

What is covered by the new Master Plan?

The new Master Plan includes the following elements: Goals and Objectives, Land Use, Circulation, Sustainability, Economic Development, Community Facilities, and Open Space.

In addition to the elements of the Master Plan, a number of community engagement events are being planned where residents, business owners and other interested people will be given the opportunity to participate in the planning process.

How can I participate?

Valuable insight into the Master Plan will be collected through the Master Plan survey on this webpage and through participation at community workshops and events. The survey page is currently open to responses, and you will be able to participate in the public outreach phase of the process by attending the community workshop that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 29th at 7:00pm at the Verona Community Center
