The purpose of the US 17 Corridor Congestion Improvement Study is to develop a master plan for short-term and long-term congestion improvements that address current and future traffic along this heavily traveled corridor.
To develop this master plan, the US 17 study team:
Collected traffic counts, turn movements, and crash data for 65 intersections. This helped to identify congested and unsafe intersections.
Analyzed all 65 intersections for safety and capacity problems.
Considered how school traffic affects congestion along US 17.
Counted pedestrians and bicyclists at all 65 intersections.
Visited all 65 intersections to verify conditions.
Asked residents for their opinions and observations.
- Residents could give their opinions at a traditional public meeting or on an interactive online map.
Reviewed reports of adopted plans
Discussed options with the Project Advisory Committee (PAC) which is comprised of:
- The Berkley Charleston Dorchester Council of Governments,
