Frequently Asked Questions
The CPUC will provide strategic advisory support throughout plan development and offer community-based guidance on the Plan elements and deliverables. The CPUC will work closely with the Planning Commission, City of Williamsburg leadership and staff, and the Comprehensive Plan consultant team to ensure the plan reflects and speaks to the community’s vision and priorities.
The CPUC is expected to meet at least eight times throughout the Comprehensive Plan development process. Meetings are expected to begin in December 2026 and occur bimonthly (every other month). Meetings are anticipated to be two hours; however, depending on meeting content, an extended timeframe may be proposed. CPUC members will receive materials to review in advance of meetings, as well as specific follow-up tasks after meetings.
CPUC members are highly encouraged to attend and/or help publicize/support public-facing events for Williamsburg Tomorrow. Overall, the monthly time commitment for members will be six to eight hours for months when a meeting will take place and four to six hours for months without a meeting.
The CPUC is expected to wrap up once the Comprehensive Plan moves forward for adoption by City Council, which is expected in Spring 2028.
The City of Williamsburg encourages all interested community members to apply for a spot on the 21-person committee. Whether you live, work, or own a business in the City of Williamsburg, we encourage you to consider applying to the CPUC and help to shape Williamsburg Tomorrow.
All applicants must complete an application to be considered. Applications are available on the Apply Now tab of this webpage and as hard copies at the Municipal Building (401 Lafayette Street). You may also request an application by emailing planning@williamsburgva.gov.
Four of the 21 seats will be two members each from the City Council and Planning Commission. Community members will comprise the remaining 17 seats. City of Williamsburg Planning staff will review and evaluate all completed applications and recommend candidates to City Council, which will vote to appoint these members during a future City Council business meeting.
