King County is updating its flood code, which sets rules for building and other activities in areas that are at higher risk of flooding. The flood code helps reduce flood damage, protects natural habitats, and helps people stay safe. Updating the flood code helps:

• Limit development in hazardous areas
• Protect future generations from flooding
• Reduce costly damage from flooding
• Support habitat restoration
• Maintain access to federal flood insurance and disaster assistance
