Dalton Highway Emergency Response 2025
Dalton Highway Emergency Response 2025
Dalton Highway Flooding and Emergency Repairs
On June 14, the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is actively responding to a significant flooding event impacting the Dalton Highway between Mileposts 305 and 356. This emergency closure was initiated due to a major washout at MP 315 caused by a failed culvert, resulting in an 80-foot-wide, 30-foot-deep breach across the full width of the roadway.
Since the onset of the event, DOT&PF crews and contractors have been working to stabilize the site, mobilize materials and equipment, and prepare for urgent repairs. Additional areas of concern have emerged along the corridor, including water overtopping at MP 318, shoulder damage between MP 321 and 325, and impounded water at MP 351 due to a partially blocked culvert. A new erosion site at MP 402 is also being monitored following rip rap placement to prevent further degradation.
Safety remains our top priority. We recognize the critical importance of the Dalton Highway and we are coordinating closely with partners and agencies to expedite repairs. While current estimates suggest the road will remain closed for at least three more days, we will continue to assess the situation and provide formal updates at 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM daily until the highway is reopened.
