Project Overview
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to replace Bridge No. 8 on N.C. 12 over the Slash in Hatteras Village, Dare County.
The bridge was determined structurally deficient in the NCDOT inspection report. Structually deficient bridges have elements of the bridge that need to be monitored and/or repaired. They are safe, but they have components in poor condition due to deterioration and require significant maintenance to remain in service. Bridge No. 8 on N.C. 12 over the slash needs to be replaced.
The proposed replacement bridge will include two (2) 15-foot lanes and five-foot sidewalks on each side. The bridge will be replaced-in-place and an off-site detour utilizing Eagle Pass Road will be used during construction which will last approximately 12 months.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed.
