U.S. Route 191 Indian Canyon Corridor

Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has multiple improvements planned and proposed for U.S. Route 191 Indian Canyon Corridor over the next two years to ensure the road withstands the projected additional heavy vehicle traffic and to improve safety for all travelers on the route. The nearly 45-mile corridor runs from Duchesne to Helper.

Nearly $104 million has been allocated for improvements to the corridor. The Utah Legislature appropriated $88.5 million in their 2023 session, and UDOT has provided just over $15.49 million in additional state and federal funding for improvements to the US-191 Indian Canyon corridor.

During the 2024 construction season, three projects are scheduled to be completed:

  • A southbound passing lane on US-191 between milepost 280 to 282
  • A pavement preservation project that will place fresh pavement, update existing guardrails, and install four cattleguards at multiple locations on US-191 from US-6 to US-40
  • Improvements to the intersection of US-191 and US-6

The planned improvements for 2024 construction are indicated in orange on the maps.

Additional improvements are in the design phase during 2024 and scheduled to be constructed in 2025.

This year, the project teams will work through a list of prioritized improvements for the corridor. They will determine which recommendations can be completed with the available funding and design the selected improvements for construction in 2025. Not all of the improvements will likely be able to be completed as part of the project as currently funded.

The proposed improvements in design during 2024 and scheduled for 2025 construction, are indicated on the maps in shades of blue.

Information about the upcoming improvements was shared in February at two public open house meetings in Duchesne and Price. The informational boards from the meetings can be viewed on the Public Meetings tab or from the pdf below.
