Project Overview

As part of its mission to improve quality of life through transportation, UDOT plans to upgrade the I-15 corridor between Farmington and Salt Lake City. New features include:

  • Building a consistent freeway with five general lanes and one Express Lane the entire project length to provide consistent travel times through the year 2050.

  • Eleven upgraded and improved interchanges and bridges along the corridor.

  • A new interchange in Salt Lake City at 2100 North to allow truck traffic to stay out of residential areas while accessing their destinations in the northern part of the City.

  • A new I-15/I-215  interchange will allow better access in all directions between these two freeways and Beck Street.

  • Two new shared-use paths along existing roads, four new paths separated completely from roads, and improvements at seven interchanges for those who walk, bike, and roll.

  • Better connections to transit stops throughout the corridor. Better access across the freeway within communities and improved safety features throughout the project.

We are currently preparing to hire a Design-Build team to design and construct the project. This process will continue through the end of 2026.

  • We plan to have a team on board to begin final design of the project in January 2027. Depending on how long design and necessary project prep takes, we hope to begin initial construction in Spring 2027.

  • As part of our current preparations, we are evaluating how to keep people moving during construction, what properties are needed for the project based on concept design, and other project details.

Final EIS & Record of Decision - Winter 2022 - Fall 2024

Based on public feedback during the Alternatives Development Phase in Winter 2022-2023 and additional technical evaluation, the study team prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for public review and comment. That public comment period ended Nov. 13, 2023. The study team released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) and the accompanying Record of Decision (ROD) October 2024. The Final EIS and Record of Decision reflect the input of stakeholders throughout the study process that balance impacts with needed outcomes.
