We loved our wedding at Zilker CLubhouse. Great building that fit 100 guests and a small band/dance floor on a cold day. The view and patio are wonderful. Lots of space for people to mill about and for kids to run around. It was affordable and in the city, both of which were really important to us. It was nice having our event in a historic building with lots of character.
We loved this venue for our daughter's HS graduation! It was very affordable and making the reservations and working with city to understand all the rules, etc was smooth and accessible. . The view is amazing! The layout of the venue is wonderful for medium size groups. We were happy that the chairs and tables came with the venue. The house seems like it needs the most attention and updating- while keeping the historical elements. Mostly in the kitchen and maybe the bathrooms. As for AC, I'm not sure how helpful that would be if the primary beauty is the outdoor view. If updates change the historical element much, it'd be better not to renovate. It is such an amazing place, and uniquely accessible to most families living in Austin. Don't change it and price-point it out of the reach of these families.
We had it in January and it was great and not having AC wasn't an issue. Scrambling to clean up and get out since it was a night event was a little nerve racking. Parking was also a little bit of a problem but we found room for everyone and many carpooled. The process for renting it was a little archaic but I'm glad it is available for Austin residents.
I thought it was delightful, though bathrooms needed sprucing up. A lighter paint on inside might brighten the place. its a bit over brown. Maybe a nice grey. The view is wonderful. THe road leading to it is abysmal
The view from the patio was incredible at night! Installation of an HVAC system is a must. We used it in November and the weather was fine, but when we used it in early October, it was miserably hot.
Would a dedicated "Green Room" where a bride or groom could get dressed and prepped or other "back of house" area improve the function of the Zilker Clubhouse as an event venue? Please slide the response to how strongly you feel.

If you want an expensive, perfect place for a wedding that has a dedicated green room there are dozens of expensive options for you in this city. The clubhouse was a uniquely Austin experience that doesn’t have all the fancy bells and whistles and that’s exactly why we liked it and why it should be left as is.
Even though we live nearby we rented an Airbnb to get ready in. This cost an additional $600 because of the 2 night minimum. We did use the the rental for other things, but a bridal ready space would have been worth paying extra at the venue. Also, getting to the venue dressed with nobody seeing you but feeling relaxed is basically impossible.
The Clubhouse is a historic facility and therefore is not air conditioned in the Main Hall. Based on your experience in the space, please position the slider to identify how strongly you feel between these two options.

We considered having the ceremony on the lawn but the propane tank is not nice to look at and the hill slopes too much. We considered setting up some games over there, too, but the slope is tough for that. All that said, I think there's plenty of space for people without it being totally useable.
We loved having this area for large family photos at our wedding. The natural area combined with the "parkitecture" of the building gave us the feeling that we were in a park and not a wedding venue.
